How Dental Insurance Works

Every dental insurance plan comes with a unique set of benefits, fees, and stipulations. You should learn about your policy in order to find out how it may apply in various situations. In the meantime, here is a general overview of the coverage that is standard among many PPO plans:

  • Preventive care: 100% covered.
  • Minor services: 80% covered.
  • Major services: 50% covered.

Some plans also include coverage for specialty treatments, such as orthodontia and dental implants.

What Is the Difference Between Dental & Medical Insurance?

Dental and medical insurance have different focuses. Medical insurance is meant to support your overall well-being. It covers routine physicals, emergency care, and management of chronic conditions. However, it does not generally apply to basic oral health services. Dental insurance does cover basic oral care, including cleanings, checkups, and more. In fact, it places a heavy emphasis on prevention.

In some cases, there is a slight overlap between the two types of insurance. For example, they might both apply to certain oral surgeries.

In-Network vs. Out-of-Network

Whether we are inside your insurance network or outside of it, we want to help you get the most out of your PPO benefits.

In-Network Coverage

If we are “in-network” with an insurance plan, it means we have a contract that controls prices and encourages a certain standard of care. Often, out-of-pocket fees are lowest at in-network practices.

At Colorado Springs Complete Dentistry, we are in-network with most major PPO plans. Simply give us a call to find out for sure whether yours is one of them!

Out-of-Network

Even if you discover that we are outside your insurance network, you are still welcome to use your PPO benefits in our practice. You might be pleasantly surprised by how much you can save! Plus, you should remember that the most important thing is to choose a dental team whom you truly trust, regardless of network status.
